Intro to Wim Hof Method: Breathing and Ice bath workshop Class runs 2 hours 10:30am-12:30pm at The Iron Cactus, 3 Newton Junction Rd UNIT 3D, Kingston, NH 03848

Discover the benefits of guided breathwork and cold exposure (ice bath) in this 2 hour class by Ice Bath Boston and Certified Wim Hof Method Merrill Cushman. By the end of this class, you will understand the science and a brief history of why the Wim Hof method has changed the lives of thousands of people around the world. You will be guided through 4 rounds of Wim Hof breathwork followed by an Ice bath (optional) so you can feel the knowledge come to life. Finally, have the tools to successfully and safely practice at home. The combination of the breathing exercises and ice bath is able to reset one's nervous system, focus and calm the mind, boost dopamine and motivation, and help with recovery and energy levels. This workshop will be hosted at the Iron Cactus Studio, aiming to empower people to create overall health and well-being in their everyday lives. They provide a one-stop-shop for all your health and wellness needs, and a yoga studio which allows you to drop in, feel comfortable and reach your height potential. At the end, they have a wonderful shop and cafe where people are encouraged to socialize, hang out after the event is complete.

 

Schedule: 

10:30 AM Welcome & Introduction to History and Science

11:00 AM Breathing and Stretching Warm Up

11:10 AM Guided Breathing session

11:50 PM Guided Ice Bath

12:30 PM Close and Hang out at Cafe 

 

What to Bring:

Comfortable clothing: Loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement.

Water bottle: To stay hydrated throughout the workshop.

Open mind: A willingness to learn and explore new techniques. 

Swimsuit/change of clothes: for the ice bath (optional)

Towel: for the ice bath if you want to experience (optional)

 

Your Instructor: 

Merrill Cushman is a Certified Wim Hof instructor, Ice Bath Boston coach and Wellness travel guide. He found breathing and cold exposure on a starry summer night in August 2021. Up till this point, he’d been suffering 5 months of debilitating depression and anxiety. After doing 15 minutes of Wim Hof breathing that night, it was the first time he wasn’t over-thinking, worrying about the future, and sincerely looked forward to the next day. Yet, he would practice the method on and off when he felt like it. Then one morning in January 2022, after taking adderall and scrolling on his phone to the point of his feet going numb on the toilet, he decided to go ALL in with the Wim Hof Method. This meant waking up everyday starting with breathwork, cold shower, followed by meditation… EVERYDAY. His hypothesis was, “if my mind-body got really good at feeling the emotions of suffering, could I rewire it to feel the emotions of happiness, strength and health until it became who I am?” In 3 months time he put on 20ibs of muscle, felt passion and joy for life, and got hired at a dream position with a travel company. He accredits this to the power of commitment to one's health and well-being, having a vision for something greater, and using the Wim Hof method (in this case) to show others what is possible.

What are the benefits? What should I bring? Please wear clothes to breathe in and bring a water bottle, yoga mat, towel, and clothes or a bathing suit that you feel comfortable wearing into the ice bath if you choose the add-on.

Can I ice bathe and do breathwork if… Consult a medical professional beforehand if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems, cardiovascular issues, or epilepsy. Breathwork can elicit strong emotional reactions that are perfectly normal and safe.
