There are countless ways addicts and alcoholics manipulate their loved ones and even themselves. If you love someone with substance use disorder (SUD), come to this discussion session with local author Craig (C.S.) Jackson of the newly launched book "Beyond the Lies: Addiction is much more than drinking alcohol and using drugs".

You will gain:
  • a greater understanding of what is happening in your relationship with an addicted loved one,
  • the words to name your experience, and
  • learn ways to finally take your personal power back...all while still supporting your loved one.

About the author Craig Jackson:

I’ve been in recovery for more than 11 years, and during that time I’ve worked with many people with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and their families as they navigate the recovery process. I grew up in generational addiction. My grandfather was an alcoholic who never found sobriety. My father was an alcoholic who got sober when I was fourteen. My oldest brother struggled with addiction for decades and is now in recovery.

In short, I am the grandson, son, and brother of addict-alcoholics. The surprising part is that my experiences growing up weren’t enough to stop me from becoming an addict and alcoholic myself. Addiction runs deep in my family.

In 2014, I was fortunate enough to get sober. Through doing the hard work of recovery, I came to understand how challenging it is to live with people who have SUD. I’ve reflected deeply on the ways addiction has affected me and how my own addiction affected the people I love. I continue to strive towards repairing the damage I created.

Through that reflection, I felt compelled to give something back. That’s why I wrote "Beyond the Lies". In "Beyond the Lies" I pull back the curtain on the inner world of addicts and alcoholics, and explain why we behave the way we do. My hope is to help you better understand your own thoughts and feelings as someone who has lived with an addicted loved one—and to support you as you begin your own healing from their addiction. "Beyond the Lies" is the first book in a series that will bring you along the full journey of active addiction through recovery.
